Sync

Even though most people that own a phone or a computer constantly use the word sync, the truth is that not many of them know what it refers to. The best way you can define sync is as an entertainment and communication system between two devices that facilitates data transfer. Usually, the data transfer is made with either Bluetooth compatible devices or by using a USB cable. The most common usage of the synchronization system is used when you are transferring music and videos from the computer to a mobile phone or a MP3 player.

How to sync your mobile phone to the computer via Bluetooth

For many people nowadays, their mobile phones are an extension of themselves, as they allow a person to carry most of the personal information and applications all the time. Since the data you usually store on the cell phone is considered critical because it includes e-mail addresses, standard addresses and the phone numbers of your friends, family or clients, for instance, you should do anything you can to avoid losing it.

One way you can do that is using the short-range wireless network, also known as Bluetooth to save the information from your phone to your computer. Here are the main steps you will need to take in order to sync the mobile phone and the computer:

  • Ensure that you have mobile phone sync software for your computer
  • Create a connection between the devices by clicking Bluetooth in the System Preferences menu
  • Sync the files
  • Make sure that both devices are not shut down while the sync takes place
  • Close the syncing software when the data has transferred

How to sync your mobile phone to your computer via a USB cable

Syncing using Bluetooth is not the most efficient way, since any disruption to the network will require you to restart the process, a far better alternative would be to synchronize your mobile device to the computer or laptop using a USB cable. It is important to note that not all cell phones have ports that enable you to attach a USB cable and hence, you will not be able to transfer the data using this method if yours does not. However, if your mobile includes the USB port and cable, here are the steps you should follow to synchronize your mobile phone to the computer:

  • Download and install the proper software if it was not included in your cell phone package
  • Locate the ‘Sync Manager’ option on your computer
  • Connect the phone to your computer by attaching the USB cable
  • The synchronization process will start automatically

In the event that the synchronization process does not start automatically, then all you need to do is click the sync icon one more time. In order to protect the data that you have on your mobile phone it is important that the device is closed when connecting it to the computer. Therefore, connect the devices together with the USB cable first and then turn on the cell phone.
