Google Sync

Google Sync

Google Sync is a service from Google that allows you to always be in touch with your account if you have a mobile device. In the past, if you needed to access any of Google’s content, you usually had to log in to your account manually using your phone’s browser, and then go on from there. Google Sync offers a better way of managing your Google account, by enabling many mobile devices to automatically access many of Google’s features.

How does Google Sync work?

In a nutshell, you can describe the function of Google Sync as a synchronizing tool. Many phones these days have a service known as SyncML and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. These are basically protocols that allow mobile devices to access and synchronize with other servers online, and one of the services they can access is Google Sync. If you have a phone that has such a feature (which most phones do nowadays), all you have to do is enter the right settings (such as your account ID and password) and you will be ready to go.

The instructions that you need to perform all these things are easily accessible on the Google Sync home page. They are very easy to follow, and you can set up your device in less than five minutes. If you find it too difficult to do, there are also video tutorials that can give you information. One thing that has to be stressed, however, is that most of the time you may not even need to access the Google Synch site to complete the setup. Many new phones these days can synchronize with the service automatically, and the only thing that is needed is that you supply your ID and password to your account. This means that almost anybody can use these services.

What are the benefits of using Google Sync?

There are many reasons why you need to consider Google Sync. Top of the list is the fact that you can easily arrange your contacts. When you use Google Sync on your device, you allow it to periodically check the contacts list in your Gmail account, and then synchronize them with the ones in your phone. This means that wherever you go, you will always have all your contacts in one place. This means that if you were ever to send an email to any contacts, you would never need to find the contact details from your email contacts list, as they would all be in your phone. Other benefits include:

  • Google Sync allows you to synchronize your to-do list from Gmail. This means that all your tasks and calendar events will be accessible to you wherever you go.
  • Google Sync has a feature that also allows you to activate push email. This means that all messages that come into your inbox will be sent to your mobile device automatically. This means that you will never be out of touch.
  • On some devices, the service also gives some administrative capabilities. If you need to make any changes to your account, you can easily do it without having to log in to Gmail first.
